in regards to the latest guestbook entry commenting on my old post about aaliyah or however you spell it, i find the glorification of the dead disgusting, regardless of who it is. it seems almost automatic now, as if it's the only proper thing to do when someone dies: their flaws are forgotten, their contributions exaggerated, and their character portrayed in the best light possible, people who never knew them or might never have cared pretend they're sad, they'll be missed... it's bullshit. my grandmother died a few years ago, she was a drunk, abusive at times, often bitter, jealous and arrogant, but she was nice sometimes and i loved her. just because i love her and might miss her sometimes, doesn't mean i have to pretend she was an angel. now let me say that as an artist i respect elvis presley a whole heck of a lot more then aaliyah, because i think he was more creative, wrote his own music for one thing, groundbreaking music even, let us not forget those hips that weren't allowed on tv. elvis was a pioneer, and as a live human being he was a lot more interesting and i think his talent was a lot more worthy of praise and worship than a young girl who sang other people's music, played no instruments and had stylists to pick out her clothes. this is not to say that he becomes perfect by dying, but his life i think was more fulfilled and noteworthy, therefore worth more admiration in retrospect. this doesn't mean people need to go insane painting murals of him with halos on his head and mourning the anniversary of his death every year mind you. my point is, let's not take a person who's contribution to our lives was mediocre at best, and pretend that all of a sudden they are glowing portraits of humanity we can't live without, just because it's proper and trendy to do so. this shit always fades away, lest we not forget kurt cobain, but it's tedious nevertheless when it happens. if people want to take celebrities and hold them as gods and idols, mourning the deaths of people they don't know, who never gave a shit about them, that's super. they can. they can also enjoy hugely overdone tributes and tacky rememberance speeches at award ceremonies that make me vomit. i won't though, because it's idiotic.

i'm a little asscrack that likes to stay up all day with little regard for the fact that i'll have to work all night, even though it makes me grouchy. we had fun even though we were sleepy and there were infected sniffling people everywhere we went. i've noticed a lot of insane crazy drivers swerving around trying to kill us lately, i don't know if they're all losing their minds or if we are. on a side note apparently when you live in the mountains in virginia, it's cool to use emergency vehicles with sirens blaring as escorts and not yield to them at all. i got a new plain black bra made out of something they call t-shirt material that doesn't feel very t-shirty but seems nice none the less (hello 50% off) and a pair of bikini underpants with lemons on them at lane bryant, a blue pleather bag with cherries on the front for cosmetics and pencils and junk from target, also on sale, and some more stuff i really needed and love to death. thanks to the tax man and my crazy husband, and the credit cards still get some sugar so it's all good.

there's a chippy screwing around by the mail boxes. i'm not sure how i manage to sleep for 10 hours and still feel tired and groggy, but it sucks. we got quite a bit of stuff done in the house and are almost ready to have the old broad come down to inspect it. we got a check for many dollars from the irs for earned income credit we didn't take but were eligable for, it will wack out our credit cards which is a very wonderful and happy thing. my ears are doing much better and my steady regiment of vitamin c and echinacea will probably help ward off the snotty nose that seems to be going around. i hate being sick so i better not.

finally a day off, it seems like i don't do anything but work. my ears are all swollen and sore and pussy and i'm a horrid nervous sight. yesterday we took my hamster over to her new home, i'm sad to see her go, but the trip would be nuts on her and the little cousin of husband has wanted a hamster forever so it would seem everybody's happy as clams. we drove like morons today when we went downtown today and applied for passports: husband ran a red light and i almost did, we also narrowly missed going the wrong way down one way streets, we were all disoriented and confused. on our way home we got lost trying to find a park that it turns out had been torn out and is now just a smoking hole in the ground, then hit the asian market which i suspect is going out of business (how often do ethnic grocer's have store wide 20% off sales?) for sushi fixings, i even found smelt roe! i hope they pull through. i plan on sleeping all day then having a decadent ass sushi dinner, followed by a pre-move cleanathon. what fun!

my bird friend waits for me in the porch light everyday, though he's too shy to say hello and flies away as soon as he sees me. yesterday i threw a handful of seeds in there for him, hope i remember not to turn the porch light on and set them on fire. things are fucked up right now, my domain was down for over 24 hours and all the email i received bounced back and can't be retrieved. husband's worked charged us for seventy bzillion dollars in benefits we already paid for or never should have paid for in the first place and we went to the asian market to get sushi supplies twice but they were closed with big 20% off sale signs in their windows... i hope they haven't hit rough times, but then i suppose really everyone has. my ears are all puffy and swollen and sad and work has been weird, the old broad lost her mind, is over medicated or something, so i've been trying to talk her out of wandering the halls and trying to wash windows at 3 am. craziness.
